attention filmmakers: Bi Request film submission

Hello, bi community folks,

Great news: Bi Request is happening again in 2008!

Bi Request is the bisexual short film program at the annual San Francisco International LGBT Film Festival, the largest and most prestigious LGBT film festival in the world. This is the festival that sets the standard for film fests on a global scale. If a film is shown at the San Francisco International, it often gets requested by dozens and dozens of other festivals, many of whom create their roster in part by going through the program guide of this festival. That means big exposure for the film, and the opportunity for the filmmaker to share their art with LGBT people around the world.

A couple of years ago, the B and the T were added to the end of the SF International name – but I noticed right away that that didn’t correspond to having any bi films in the program. I riled up a bunch of bi folks and our allies and turned into a major squeaky wheel about this. Frameline, the organization that puts on the festival, was quick to respond, and worked with me to actively solicit and promote bi material in last year’s festival. Yay!

With Frameline’s support, I volunteered to curate the first ever Bi Request program. It was a huge success, with a packed theatre and fabulous short films about bisexual lives and by bi film-makers from around the world. Five of the film-makers were in attendance, including one who flew all the way from Australia to proudly show her work.

And now, we’re doing it again! Frameline has asked me to volunteer again this year to curate Bi Request, and I jumped at the chance – it’s so much fun! So please help me spread the word. Bi film-makers (and film-makers who have make films about bisexual lives/ featuring bisexual characters) can send their short films directly to me for consideration in Bi Request, or they can go through Frameline. If they want to send their films to me, the deadline is approaching, and the address is:
Amy Andre
PO Box 14821
San Francisco, CA 94114

Let your film-making friends know about Bi Request. And, if you’re in San Francisco in June, please make plans to attend Bi Request, too!

Here are some links of interest:
To send a submission to Frameline: http://www.frameline.org/filmmaker-support/festival-submissions/ (you’ll see the new statement about looking for films from underrepresented communities – including bi folks!)
To read about my “squeaky wheel” dialogue with Frameline: http://www.amyandre.com/film.html
To read about Bi Request: http://laughingsquid.com/squidlist/events/index.php?com=detail&eID=168645&year=2007&month=6
And info about Bi Request in Wikipedia, of all places!: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frameline

Cheers,
Amy

IMsL 2008 – Strap On Your Boots and Ride
the longest running women's leather competition. There is no other
contest with its history. No women's contest has continually brought
fierce, yet friendly, competition of leather women, educational
seminars, one-stop shopping for all kinky needs at the vendors' space,
and, of course, hot play parties around the clock. Each year, leather
women and *everyone* who loves them, experience an unforgettable event
which leaves them, not only with two outstanding title holders to
their weekend and a hunger for next year's event.

The weekend will begin Thursday night with "Seduction" presented by
Good Vibrations – an evening of burlesque, strip tease, drag kings and
queens, go-go dancers, lap dancing and more. On-site play spaces will
open Thursday night as well and remain open all weekend. The weekend
continues on Friday with hospitality receptions including our new
Uniform Party, educational workshops, world-class vendors, charity
auctions and our Bootblack Salon and Leather Lounge staffed by the
contestants for the International Ms Bootblack competition. Saturday
brings the contests and the annual Boots and Cigars party. Sunday's
brunch has been reformatted and will be highlighted by a keynote
address from the hilarious, and often irreverent author, Laura
Antoniou, creator of `The Marketplace' Series.

Registration is now open, with an early bird price of *only* $99,
available until February 29. Registration may be completed online at
time. Also on the website is a link for making reservations for the
host hotel, the Holiday Inn Golden Gateway. Alternatively, rooms may
be reserved by calling (415) 441-4000. Those who mention group code
groups to save some money. These group discount packages offer 10 full
weekend packages for the price of 7 ½. See www.IMsL.org for more
information.

emcee. Judging the International Ms Leather contest are Sarah Humble,
Head Judge (American Leatherwoman 1994), Lady Faye Falconnier

community as International Ms Leather or International Ms Bootblack
can find applications on the website or by emailing
contestantcoordinator@IMsL.org. Intelligent and articulate women,

Tantra Weekend Workshop! - SF - Feb 2-3

Great event coming up in SF - Transformative Tantra Weekend!
Please forward to anyone or any lists who you think would be interested. Thanks!!

Transformative Tantra:Transgender, Transgressive, Transcendent
February 2nd and 3rd, 2008, 10 AM to 5 PM
Center for Sex and Culture, San Francisco

Barbara Carrellas, author of Urban Tantra and Dossie Easton, co-author of Radical Ecstasy and The Ethical Slut, join forces to explode the myths and embrace the power of SM, gender journeying and Tantra.

If you are curious about the ecstatic possibilities of Tantra and other energy-focused sexual paths, but have felt too queer, too gender-queer, too kinky, too slutty, or too down-to-earth to feel comfortable in traditional Tantra groups, you'll love this weekend-facilitated by two women who have spent their entire adult lives exploring perverted paths to ecstasy. Persons of all genders and lovers of all stripes are welcome.

What is/are your gender(s)? Your partners' gender(s)? Do you really have to choose only one? We'll look at what gender is and what it isn't, and then find new ways to express it, pervert it and play with it. Next, we'll explore sexual energy as a physical force that you can activate, build, shape, and ride to amplify all your erotic encounters. We'll end our first day with a shared journey, as we intertwine our experience of masculine and feminine and both and neither into a big ecstatic circle of breath.

On Sunday, we'll explore the different elements and styles of energy-sharing and power exchange in sexual relationships. Using techniques from Tantra and BDSM, and the occasional bit of rope, we'll experiment with consciously polarizing and uniting opposites: active and receptive, masculine and feminine, power and helplessness. Is it true that the further apart we polarize our roles, the hotter the spark that bridges the gap? Let's find out!

All genders, sexual preferences and orientations are welcome.

To register or for more info contact: <mailto:mail@sexandculture.org>mail@sexandculture.org or 415-255-1155. The full weekend workshop is available for $395 per person, early bird special of $360 if you reserve before January 1st.

Trans Tantra Introductory Evening
Friday, February 1, 2008
7 - 10 PM at the Center for Sex and Culture
$25 per person

Meet the authors Barbara Carrellas and Dossie Easton for an evening of chat and some experimental journeys in breath and consciousness. Get a taste of the weekend to come, satisfy your curiosity about Tantra and other energy-focused sexual paths, and discover how Tantra can help you unleash some unique abilities within yourself. Persons who have no experience in Tantra who intend to attend the full weekend are particularly encouraged to attend this evening, but all are welcome to join us for a taste of Tantra.

BIO

Dossie Easton, a long time player on the San Francisco S/M scene and well-known killer bottom, is co-author with Janet Hardy of The Ethical Slut, a guide to infinite sexual possibilities as well as The New Bottoming Book and The New Topping Book, When Someone You Love Is Kinky, a book designed to give to outsiders to inform them about our lifestyle, and most recently, Radical Ecstasy: SM Journeys to Transcendence. She is a licensed psychotherapist working with individuals, couples and more in her private practice, with a particular interest in how SM journeys into Shadow can bring old wounds into the healing light of consciousness and and give them a shot of life force in the form of good hot sex. You can check out her website at www.dossieeaston.com.

Barbara Carrellas is the author of Urban Tantra: Sacred Sex for the Twenty-First Century and Luxurious Loving: Tantric Inspirations for Passion and Pleasure.
ADYKE in SF Bay area uses sexuality poll to oust bisexual members!!!!

After running what appeared to be an amusing looking poll on the ADYKE site
(a list for self identified Lesbians over 40)it seems the owner Michelle
Brevard has appointed herself to be the Lesbian Police. Basically, she
unequivocally decided that the few women who polled in as bi-sexual could
NOT be Lesbians so they were promptly removed from the list with no warning
or explanation. Even when one protested that she was most definately a
Lesbian, there was no turning back. "You said it therefore you are."

Enter your vote today! A new poll has been created for the adyke group:

What is your sexual orientation?

o Lesbian
o Bisexual
o Not sure
o Ambidextrous
o Ask me next week
===========================
Here is some commentary that followed on the BASAPPHO list.

Ellen@aol. wrote:
I was subjected to several phone calls and an inquisition about my
fsexuality from a-dyke due to some stupid rumor that I had a husband. I
self identified as a lesbian to sign up. Not only have I been a dyke
since the age of 19, I have dedicated alot of my life to activism and
advocacy to improve safety in the schools for glbt students, parents,
children of lgbt parents and staff. It felt insulting, intrusive and
invasive to me to be questioned about this. It's going too far.

Commentary by Lyn:
the poll asks "sexual orientation"
what if you said lesbian is your sexual *preference*,
although technically your sexual orientation is
bisexual. we have all been hearing for years that
virtually everyone is a bisexual somewhere on the bell
curve of preference. if you dont act on it, then what
does that make you? if you have an experience with a
man once a decade, but only fall in love with women,
what does that make you?

Hey Adyke: Dont Ask, Dont tell !
karen,
after looking at the sexual orientationpoll of adyke
website, it says you may change your answer until the
poll closes, and it has no closing date. if this is a
trick of hers to screen out non-lesbians from
membership, it is certainly odd. it's odd any way
youlook at it, since the group info states it is for
lesbians, so why even have such a poll?? a member's
lesbianism is assumed (and self-assigned.)
if someone were really hiding out on our list, they
would carefully avoid the poll, i'm sure. only the
innocent questioners among us would fall into the
trap, if tha'ts what it is. in fact, i looked at that
poll before, but i didnt even think of its weird
inconsisitency myself.
i just thought, i dont answer really personal stuff
online, and moved on. i mean, i guess i thought it
meant, "being that you are a lesbian, in which
directions do you lean the most?" It appeared to be
allowing fluidity--or as you called it, diversity. it
didnt occur to me to be defensive or suspicious of it.
==================================
2 additional technicalities that came to mind:
i am pretty shocked that they can link the poll
responses to the pollee. i would have assumed it was
anonymous within adkye.

it is not fair that those of us who did not take the
poll are "safe."
no one has contacted me to require that i answer those
questions.
otherwise, i might be banned too, who knows?????
there should be a fair warning that your answers can
be used against you. There may well be a serious
legal issue here, like constitutionsl right to free
speech, or discrimination.
do we have any idea yet how many other women have met
your same fate?
Having been a long-time supporter of lesbian-only space, I am horrified and
appalled by adyke using a member's poll answer in order to expell them from
the group. This smacks of Big Brother at its worst.

If you want to say this is lesbian-only space and from now on we don't want
anyone who identifies as bi-sexual to be a part of the group, then SAY IT,
be honest about it, and ask people to abide by it. Don't add it as a P.S.
somewhere. Don't use someone's answer in a poll to ban them without a word
of explanation to them as to why. That is TOTALLY different from our
herstoric efforts to fight for wimmin-only and lesbian-only space.

research study on bi men and body image - participants wanted

hey flamers!

it's been a bit quiet in here recently... i hope that everyone's doing well and flaming brightly?

i was recently contacted by a research professor at San Fran State U. she's doing some cool-sounding research into body image issues and men of different sexual preferences. at the moment, she's hunting bi boys for participation, so i told her that i'd pass along her info on tribe. below is her description of the study and what she's looking for. in a separate message she told me that although she would prefer face to face, it might not be strictly necessary. there's also a possibility of doing a group thing. i'm supposed to talk to her in about a week; if it goes really weirdly, i'll let y'all know :-)

I am a professor at SFSU and I am conducting a research project, the only
one of its kind ever, in which I am studying body image, media, and
self-conception. Clearly we live in a body-conscious culture that is
saturated with media images of ³ideal² bodies. What makes this research
unique is that I am the only researcher who is comparing how gay, bisexual,
and heterosexual men think and feel about their bodies in this media world.

I am hoping you will be able to attend a group discussion of this topic with
other bisexual men. I assure you that any and all information that you share
will be kept confidential, and that your identity will be protected. What
you get back is a chance to have your opinions and experiences included in
manuscript that will be submitted for publication in a scholarly journal.
You will also be invited to read the manuscript and offer feedback if you
wish to do so prior to publication.
We will meet at SFSU. If you¹d like to participate, can you please respond
to these few questions? Of course, if you have any questions that you want
to ask before you respond, that¹s fine too.

Hi all --

My spouse (androgynous bio-boy) and I (androgynous bio-girl) are both bi. We'd love to take a cruise with other queers, but we fear that I would be unwelcome on an RSVP cruise and he on an Olivia cruise. Has anybody ever heard of a cruise for bi-folk?

hi all,

we have a tribe now for babn; if you are in the bay area and want to participate in our REAL LIFE ACTIVITIES SUCH AS DINNERS AND BRUNCHES, please feel free to drop me a line and you'll get an invitation to the tribe.

it's private but NOT cuz we want it exclusive; we want it to be as inclusive as possible but we don't want any bi haters or wankers so we made it private so it couldn't be searchable by google. (everything not private on tribe shows up in google searches)

hope to see you at one of our events or on our tribe!

much love,
xoxo,

For our first ever Bi Request shorts program, volunteer guest curator Amy André selected films made by bisexual directors and/or about bisexual subjects. Bi Request was inspired by Frameline’s ongoing commitment to promote bisexual visibility and display bi images in film.

From Jan Krüger, the director of Unterwegs and The Whiz Kids, comes Hotel Paradijs, a film about the magic and darkness of desire. Though happy with his boyfriend Christian, Paul finds himself seduced by Claire. But is it really Claire, or just the idea of falling in love with a woman, that makes Paul turn away from his lover? Less concerned with the external forces that attract, Krüger instead focuses his lens on the unpredictable desires within that can tear a loving couple apart.

In a spoof of the 1950s educational film style, Shady Bi warns of the “dangers” of bisexual women. A bisexual transwoman documents her transition in Whatever Suits You. Single Sexy Bilingual is a short, black comedy about being bilingual, bisexual and bipolar. In Checkout, friends (and ex-lovers) Corey and Max compete for the same woman at the grocery store. In Lauren’s Call, a Cuban immigrant couple fights to make their relationship work in the midst of a sexual identity crisis. A scorned bisexual goes postal in One Useless Prick, and nature-loving bisexuals go camping in Bi Camp.

Shady Bi dir April Hirschmann 2007 USA 4 min
Bi Camp dir Wayne Bryant 2007 USA 3 min
CHECKOUT dir Jenn Garrison 2006 U S A 9 min
One Useless Prick dir Punkvert Films 2007 USA 6 min
Whatever Suits You dir Ashley Altadonna 2007 USA 7 mn
Single Sexy Bilingual dir Barbara Karpinski 2006 Australia 12 min
Hotel Paradijs dir Jan Krueger 2007 USA 30 min

Total Running Time: 94 mins

Frameline31, the 31st San Francisco International LGBT Film Festival, screening June 14-24 at the Castro Theatre, Roxie Film Center the Victoria Theatre, and at the Parkway Theater in Oakland is the oldest and largest event of its kind in the world. Tickets go on sale to Frameline members Friday, May 25. General public ticket sales begin Friday, June 1. Tickets are available at Superstar Satellite video store located at 474 Castro Street (between Market and 18th Street in San Francisco), online at www.frameline.org/festival, and by fax at 415 522 5543.

been active each weekend doing whatever gives me pleasure. been going to every alternative event imaginable and then some! and in san francisco, that's saying something.

i've been o-d-ing on wild culture:
burning man bonfires
labyrinths at the beach
big wheel races for adults
sex play parties for queers
sex play parties for women
classes on kinky foreplay
alt theatre with nudity and very weird themes
post modern dance shows
gay boi/boy clubs (am bi woman)

i've had one social engagement rule since i arrived in sf: attend any event that has the word sex in the title. that has taken me some wild places!

it's been a blast!

what have you been doing to flame brightly?

i'm new to bay area, to bisexuality, and new to tribe.

i've had a great time volunteering at the citadel's all women's play party (with amateur strippers and midori's meat market!) also for the center for sex and culture's sex workers art show at cell space AAAAAAAAAAAND the bay area bisexual network table at the folsom street fair.

plus i love hanging out at lgbt center's 3 dollar bill cafe (is that not a great name!). their oatmeal with cranberries is great comfort food when you're homesick.

in the process of coming out to concentric circles. (came out to friends as bi, not to fundamentalist family) i'm loving sf.
Micah Kellner, a bisexual man and Democrat, is running for political office in New York. If elected, he would be the first out bi politician in the history of the state. He’s also disabled and a disability rights activist. If I was in NY, he'd have my vote! Check it out:

Hey Girls, a friend of mine is throwing a party just for bisexual girls to meet eachother. I know that most of you are in SF, but if any of you are in LA this is the party for you. The location is just beautiful, it's at an artists loft at the Brewery Complex.. if you've never been you'll be blown away. Go to Bisect .org for more info. I really really want to see some of you beautiful ladies there

Attend Cuffs and Collars, even if you're single!

Y/you are interested in attending what is sounding like a really cool party.
Y/you like the idea of protocol, leather tradition, Domination and submission.
But you aren’t collared to Anyone, or don’t have anyone collared to You…

What to do?

Here are some options.

a) Negotiate a scene for the evening with a play partner that includes collaring them before You arrive. This party is to celebrate D/s and collaring. If for You that is just for an evening, that’s ok with Me.
b) Volunteer to be in service to Me for the evening. I am looking for a few submissives (male or female) to be collared to Me for the evening and act as party hosts and hostesses. you will be helping with the kitchen, serving food and beverages, or any other specific tasks that W/we will negotiate, One on one, before the party. I will supply you with your collar.

Once again, I am just trying to provide and environment, to create a mood, where P/people who enjoy D/s and protocol can play in public, surrounded by O/others in the same headspace. If Y/you enjoy this type of play, but happen to be single right now, I will do what I can to get Y/you involved.

If Y/you have any questions, please email U/us at:
volunteer_cuffandcollars@yahoo.com

it's in the lyrics

OK flaming bi's, here's a challenge for you...

gimme some of your favorite BI-oriented music ! i'd like to start a list going, perhaps make a compilation CD :)

one of the ones that sticks out in my mind i first heard at Burning Man a couple of years ago. this really thin, tall, dark skinned guy from holland named melvin just loved the hell out of it :

BOYFRIEND
M. Redbone/ A. Whitby

mp3 | ram

standing in a starbucks line, he was sipping lemonade
he didn't give a damn about all the people or what they said
I ordered my coffee, strong and black and straight
we talked about love and garbage
and he told me that he was gay

I guess it's c'est la vie, guess I should have known
thought i'd found a lover, that's the way life goes
said he'd like to know me, see me once again
maybe we can hang...

chorus
he said i've got a boyfriend
he said i've got a boyfriend, ooh
he said i've got a boyfriend
but I kinda like girls, too...

----------------------------------------

it goes on, but you get the gist. i found the lyrics here: http://www.martharedbone.com/lyrics.html

I'm listening with a group of lesbians while one of them tells a story about an old lover. At the point in the story where they're breaking up, she says, "She left me for a man. For some reason they always leave me for a man." Then she stops, looks at me and says, "No offense".

WTF????

I've been on this list for a number of years, but have been away. Got any good responses? How you doing?

SF - LoveFest or Folsom plans?

not to exclude those of you lovely sexy flaming bis who are beyond striking distance of san francisco, but i'm wondering if any of the Bay Area Bis have special plans for this weekend's events?

I'm personally planning to spend a little time at LoveFest on Saturday; i might do some stilting if i can make some changes to my stilts before then...

Sunday being the Folsom St Fair, i'm a little unsure whether or not i'll be heading out. on the one hand, i feel a responsibility as a Voyeur to appreciate all the exhibitionists who turn out for Folsom, but years of Burning Man have made me feel the importance of participating (!) .. but the bondage scene is really not mine

anyways, enough about me- are there any good events or parties that i ought to hear about?

I do both Jay and Jane

Has anyone else heard this song? I don't remember where I first heard of it (hopefully I won't embarrass myself b/c I actually heard about it here first) It's by a group called 2 Bad Mice and it's not some weird country music or anything either. It's actually good techno music.

It's not only pro-bisexuality but pro-polyamory.. double cool!

Here are the lyrics that I can make out:

I met a boy.
His name was Jay.
He was so fine.

I met a girl
Her name was Jane.
She wanted to be mine.

I met a boy.
His name was Jay.
He was the one.

I met a girl.
Her name was Jane.
She wanted to have fun.

He had a vision
of the things I needed
She understood
how a woman should be treated

I've got to say then
which one should I choose?
When it comes to Jay and Jane
there's just no way to lose.

I do both Jay and Jane.
It ain't make me feel ashamed.
There's no shame to my game.
I do both Jay and Jane.

Jane's as sweet as honey
??
She knows how to hit the spot
??

??
???
He knows how to make me hot
??

I gotta have them both.
You just don't understand.
Sometimes I call on Jane.
Sometimes I need a man.

I do both Jay and Jane.

MySexual

Mermaid asks:
"I do wish there was a better word to explain that I am not limited by gender in my attractions. Pansexual doesn't do it for me, because that implies "any and everything" and that is definitely not what I've got going on. Any ideas? "

As the Mother of the Mysexual Movement, I'm chiming in here to let you know that I coined the term "mysexual" back in the early '90s to answer this very question.

Mysexual implies that everyone has their own place on the continuum of the sexual preference spectrum. You own your place, it is yours (mine), and it is unique unto you. Everyone has their own stripes and flavor, so why not consider sexual orientation on the basis of singular ownership? It's my sexuality, therefore I'm a mysexual.

(I've also used the term bio-sexual - I'm alive, therefore, I'm sexual.)

xox Rox!

Anyone catching the hot bi action on the L-word this season? They have a sexy trans guy fucking a non-trans guy on a bar stool in the last episode -- it was incredibly hot! The trans guy has a girlfriend, too, so, since he's having sex with guys and girls, I'm assuming he's bi.
Works for me,

new film just out from bi director (that's me!)

Hey, I just wanted to let everyone know about a film I just made (my first)! It's a documentary short called "On My Skin / En Mi Piel," and it's about a friend of mine, a queer mixed-race transgender man, and the recent journey he took to his ancestral homeland, Mexico. I made it as part of an exploration of the sexualities of mixed-race people. Details are here: www.BlackAndWhiteAllOver.com (that's www [dot] Black And White All Over [dot] com, in case your browser won't show it).

I'm trying to get this film into different festivals, so wish me luck... Maybe it'll show at a festival near you!

If anyone would like to learn more about "On My Skin," feel free to email me. It's being distributed through AltCinema, my gf's film company, and you can sign up on the AltCinema mailing list for info on upcoming screenings. Go to AltCinema [dot] com to sign up. (FYI, she *never* spams and rarely sends out any messages at all.)

Cheers,
Amy :)

intro from your friendly local kibitzer

Hi, everyone! I'm new to this Tribe, so I thought I'd introduce myself...

I hope everyone had a great New Year's! I had a cold, so I spent a relaxing evening curled up on the couch watching tv with my girlfriend.

A little bit about me: I'm bi, I live in SF with my gf, and I'm a sex educator and writer. I run a website called DearAmy.net, which is all about sex advice. I love it, 'cause I get to be a kibitzer (someone who loves to chat and give advice) and help people all over with improving their sex and dating lives!

For fun I like to travel. In the past six months I've been to New York, Boston, P-town, LA, Rhode Island, Florida, and Utah! Phew.

Cheers,
Amy :)

Flame on over here: Fencesitter's

"San Francisco's premier party for bisexuals returns on Friday, November 25, 2005, the day after Spanksgiving, at the Rawhide in San Francisco.

Hosting two dance floors and an upstairs covered patio, the Rawhide will be the perfect place to mingle, socialize, and perhaps spark up something new on either side of the fence.

Downstairs on the main dance floor, we'll have local SF DJs Mermaid (Miss Kitty's Scratching Post) and Jovino (Theory Radio) from 9 p.m. until midnight. DJ Laird (Get YER Freak on!/LUSH) will spin the latest in SF dance music until closing at 2 a.m. For those wanting a bit of retro we have DJs lowlife (Re-Flexx, New Wave City, 1984) and John (Re-Flexx, New Wave City) spinning the dance hits of the Eighties in the mezzanine dance floor.

The event will run from 9 p.m. until 2 a.m. and is 21 and over. Admission will be $5 until 10 p.m. and $10 after. The Rawhide is located at 280 Seventh Street at Folsom in San Francisco's SOMA district.

Any late-breaking info would be posted on the website at www.fencesittersball.com"

So, bi people can tend to be pretty invisible, both at queer and straight events. I'm interested in hearing how you feel about this, and what (if anything) you choose to do about it.

and it might be horrible to say, but I'm really starting to lose my patience with the whole exclusion thing. I try to be understanding. I know that people need places they can feel safe in. But I'm just really tired of being around people that refuse to deal with one gender or another, or one group or another. I need my own damn group, of people who don't care whether someone was born with a penis or not, or likes leather or not, or ... grrr. Ya know? I really wish I knew more flaming bi-sexuals. I am the only one in my social circle. Sometimes I feel like the last friggin unicorn. You know some people refuse to believe we exist! Oh, I've met them. Maybe I'm just bitter because I had a sucky pride. No action at all. And I looked fabulous! I marched in the parade, that was fun. But the person I was marching next to is a perfect example of what I mean. She kept saying things like "I have to work with men, isn't that enough? I dont' want to interact with them." and "oh, I hear the Michigan Women's festival is really 'safe' " Yes, I informed her, I would never go because of the whole trans issue. Did they ever change their minds on that? She stopped talking to me when I pointed out my husband, cheering from the sidelines. Then I gave this leather dyke a hug and got glitter on her (heaven forbid) and she said something snappy.... I dunno. I just feel like I don't belong anywhere.

So, anyone have any happy pride stories?

I remember when I 1st started wearing make up, mostly eyeliner. I used to put it on and then take it off so the residue would be minimal and you couldn't really tell I was wearing it.

Now I Love being able to feel comfortable wearing coal on my eyes. Lately I have taken to wearing lip stick too, M gave me some that I like.

Not quite ready or willing to wear it to school, though I frequently wear the coal on my eyes there.

Being able to wear dresses or just generally mix up clothes and wigs is great fun for me, any chance to dress in a hootchie fashion is good enough for me.

being friends with flaming monosexuals

Sometimes it's hard to feel welcome in monsexual space--straight or gay--because I get the feeling that I'm just misunderstood. I have some friends who bristle at the word "bisexual" because they see it as limiting the choice into a binary system they don't feel comfortable with. Yes, i agree in theory, and I love the "mysexual" post, but for the general purposes of cultural reference, bisexual seems to fit how I see my self in relation to others. It's hard, because I love all my friends, and find them all attractive, and have not reached the maturity level necessary to separate love and affection from sexual good vibes. ANd it has always annoyed me that no one in my queer group of friends (or aquanitences) ever wants to talk about bisexuality, because as "queer" as they are, they find discussions of queerness other than theirs (ex. bisexuality) horrendously boring and banal. SO I'm happy to have found a tribe of people that not only aren't afraid to call align themselves with bisexuals, but even sometimes flamingly proclaim their schism with the monosexual world. Thank you for making me feel not quite as at odds with the world.

I used to have a keen pin that spelled out VISIBILITY with the 'bi' in the middle in a different color. It was a subtle statement.

This last weekend I was at a party, and I noticed that three of the participants had similar jewelery that I had never seen before. I asked, and was suprised to find out that it was bi-pride jewelry. Wow! Who knew. There is even a bi flag! Check it out: http://www.biflag.com/

Adventures of a Bi Grrl & Bi Boi

I'm just loving the fact that I'm dating a man who has been married to another man for the past 9 years but still loves his grrls. He and I recently stopped by the Hole in the Wall in SF, a gruffy gay man's bar and he and I were totally made welcome.

I asked him if it would make him uncomfortable to be going to be a gay bar with a woman and he just laughed at me and said that it was okay, he was too queer for them to take away his gay card. I love this guy!

So, I gave him a nice massage and made out with him and all the while the barkeep is joking around with us and all of my queer brothers were very respectful and didn't sneer at us or anything. It was quite a pleasent experience for a flaming bisexual as myself.

And then, once we left the gay bar we headed over to Mr. S, an imfamous leather store here in San Francisco. He flirted some with the boys behind the counter and we found a good butt plug for him and had fun tormenting each other with naughty ideas.

After that we headed over to Stormy Leather to pick up my ticket for Spanksgiving. And while we were there I got to have so much fun flirting with the store manager - trying out different vibrators - and my gay boi was totally digg'n it. She asked me why I was only buying one ticket and I said that my boi wasn't going because he had a husband at home. And the manager said, well, then why aren't you buying three tickets? And I laughed said that I'd love to but that his husband was in denial (about me, & enjoying BDSM.. another story).. and we all laughed.

Once we left the store my boi hugged and kissed me and said, "You are _so_ much fun to shop with!" with a huge smile.

*happy sigh* It's so much more fun to be a flaming bisexual with another flaming bisexual bi your side!
