Mermaid asks:
"I do wish there was a better word to explain that I am not limited by gender in my attractions. Pansexual doesn't do it for me, because that implies "any and everything" and that is definitely not what I've got going on. Any ideas? "

As the Mother of the Mysexual Movement, I'm chiming in here to let you know that I coined the term "mysexual" back in the early '90s to answer this very question.

Mysexual implies that everyone has their own place on the continuum of the sexual preference spectrum. You own your place, it is yours (mine), and it is unique unto you. Everyone has their own stripes and flavor, so why not consider sexual orientation on the basis of singular ownership? It's my sexuality, therefore I'm a mysexual.

(I've also used the term bio-sexual - I'm alive, therefore, I'm sexual.)

Nice - it speaks to the uniqueness of everyone and the individuality of desire, without limiting or making people feel left out because they don't fit neatly into one category or another. I like it!

    Got a flag? ;-) ;-)

      I like this idea.

How about a Flag with "MY" over a sideways 8/ infinity/ moubius strip. In the colors of your choice?

I've read this term before with great interest. It confirms my way of thinking about sexuality for a long time. There are many more reasons why one may feel turned on or turned off than just male or female. There's a whole myriad of emotional and situational triggers. It's all dynamic, and it's individual. I've even thought up a term "Multi-orientational sexual individuals" (MOSI for short) - just for personal kicks. Anyway, let me know, Sister Roxanne, if and when you start a MySexual Tribe.

How about dynasexual? My interests change on a daily basis. Why do we have to be declared as straight, bi or gay as some permanent orientation? Can't we change?

just to add another great term here- a friend of mine made up the term "heteroflexible" for those that are basically heterosexual but will make certain exceptions

Here's something that someone else wrote on the "Love without Labels" tribe.

I've always found whatever label one wishes to use with me far less important or even completely unimportant relative to what and who I really am. "Straight", "bi", "gay", "asexual", none of it has the slightest importance to me because my focus is always on what sort of sex suits me here and now.

It could be sex with another man, it could be sex with a woman, it could be sex with a diverse group of both, with a transsexual, BDSM, or no sex at all.

I've explored many possibilities and consider my explorations unfinished.

Without focusing on the label, I'm free to be fluid and, without a specific label for others to stick on me, they are left unable to categorize and thus limit their conclusions about who what I am. I am free to evolve and change at will and the judgments of others are left to evolve and change. That is precisely what is right for any lifeform and certainly what is right for a human being.

Ignore entirely these labels our cultures labor so hard to cling to. Leave your sexuality open-ended and hard-to-define. You'll be vastly more free and your life will be vastly more organic and that's always a good thing. Labels, categories, hard definitions suffocate and it's best not to use them with the living.
